چکیده

The paper deals with analysis and time-frequency representation of multicomponent signals characterised by non-linear frequency variation in time. A certain type of higher-order time-frequency distribution, referred to as Polynomial Wigner-Ville distribution [2], has been designed to achieve delta function concentration in the timefrequency plane for this class of signals. In the presence of multiplicative noise, the signals are treated as being random and we introduce time-varying higher-order spectra (TV-HOS) as ensemble averaged Polynomial Wigner-Ville distributions. TV-HOS are shown to be natural tools for analysis of non-stationary random signals, and we demonstrate this in the context of FM signals affected by multiplicative noise.

Hybrid methods using genetic algorithms for global optimization

This paper discusses the trade-off between accuracy, reliability and computing time in global optimization. Particular compromises provided by traditional methods (Quasi-Newton and Nelder-Mead's simplex methods) and genetic algorithms are addressed and illustrated by a particular application in the field of nonlinear system identification. Subsequently, new hybrid methods are designed, combinin...

Complexity of the consistency problem for certain Post classes

The complexity of the consistency problem for several important classes of Boolean functions is analyzed. The classes of functions under investigation are those which are closed under function composition or superposition. Several of these so-called Post classes are considered within the context of machine learning with an application to breast cancer diagnosis. The considered Post classes furn...

Dynamic recurrent neural networks: a dynamical analysis

In this paper, we explore the dynamical features of a neural network model which presents two types of adaptative parameters: the classical weights between the units and the time constants associated with each artificial neuron. The purpose of this study is to provide a strong theoretical basis for modeling and simulating dynamic recurrent neural networks. In order to achieve this, we study the...

Robust stability analysis of discrete-time systems using genetic algorithms

|We reduce stability robustness analysis for linear, time-invariant, discrete-time systems to a search problem and attack the problem using genetic algorithms. We describe the problem framework and the modi cations that needed to be made to the canonical genetic algorithm for successful application to robustness analysis. Our results show that genetic algorithms can successfully test a su cient...
